Falana at State House, meets with Jonathan

Human rights activist and a Chieftain of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Femi Falana, on Friday met with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
It was not however clear why Falana, who is not a regular caller at the seat of government, was doing at the Villa in the evening.
The closed doors meeting lasted for about one hour.
After the tete-a-tete with the President, State House correspondents accosted the ‘August’ visitor to know his mission.
Falana said it was simply a private visit, adding that he remain a stakeholder in the affairs of the country.
“It is a private visit.
“It is a private visit.”
Asked whether the visit has any connection with the 2015 elections, he said: “No, no, no
“It was for the affairs of our country.
“I am a stakeholder.
“You know that.”
Still not satisfied, newsmen asked whether the visit has anything to do with the Federal Government’s case against the Leadership newspaper, he said: “It has nothing to do with that at all, on a very serious note.”
Falana is the lawyer to Leadership newspaper.
The Presidency is in court against Leadership newspaper over a lead story it published alleging a ‘Presidential directive’ to clampdown on opposition parties.
Three editors of the Abuja-based papers were subsequently arrested by the police and later sued.
Reacting to the criticisms that trailed the arrest, presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, had described the alleged ‘bromide’ published as “a dubious bromide containing nothing more that a mishmash of carefully arranged and concocted lies, presented to the public as evidence of a document emanating from the Presidency
