Fake drug dealer arrested in Lagos

The fight against counterfeit drugs got a boost with the arrest of one Ikenna Nne for allegedly producing and packaging substandard drugs.
The police said the suspect converted his apartment in Lagos State to a drug manufacturing centre where he churned out large quantities of fake drugs.
Ikenna, 58, however said he was only employed to package the drugs and not the owner of the factory as being alleged by the police.
The suspect was arrested by policemen men attached to the Ejigbo Division on March 15, 2013 at about 5pm at 5, Arochukwu Street, Ejigbo.
The officers, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Ejigbo, Inoma Abbey, recovered two packing machines, one blistering machine and five large cartons of fake Zentel tablets, thousands of packs of Zentel tablets and a large quantity of printed packets for packaging Postinor tablets.
The suspect said: “The owner pays pays me N20,000 for each drum I package.
“I also get N35,000 for using my place every month.
“I don’t market the drugs neither do I produce.
“I only package.
“The drugs are imported from China.”
The suspect said a drug dealer he identified simply as Uche was the brain behind the fake drugs.
He added: “I’m not the owner of the goods.
“The reason this large quantity of goods were found in my possession is that I seized them after Uche refused to pay me.”
The police said the suspect will be handed over to the appropriate agency for prosecution.
