Ex-Governor of Adamawa State dies after protracted illness

Alhaji Saleh Michika, the first democratically elected governor of Adamawa State, is dead.
Michika passed away on Saturday night at the Federal Medical Centre, Yola as a result of a protracted illness.
Macaulay Hunohashi, the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Muhammadu Bindow, confirmed the death of of the ex-governor in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Yola on Sunday.
Hunohashi said Bindow, who visited Michika in the hospital on Saturday, was later in the night called to be informed of his death.
Born in 1941, Michika was Adamawa State governor from January 2, 1992 to November 17, 1993 on the platform of the defunct National Republican Convention.
This followed the creation of Adamawa State out of the defunct Gongola State by the then administration of former Military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and the institution of the two party system.
The other party then was the Social Democratic Party.
The deceased will be buried on Sunday at 2pm in his hometown, Michika.
