Santiago Fisas, the Chief Observer of the European Union Observation Mission Nigeria 2015, on Saturday lauded the orderly conduct of elections in different polling units in Lagos State.
Fisas told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that the large turnout of the voters was a demonstration of their commitment to participating and promoting democracy.
He said: “The large turnout of people was a demonstration of their enthusiasm to vote candidates of their choices and this is good for Nigeria’s democracy.
“From our observation, the people came out early, waited to be accredited and voted their choices.
“Nigeria’s election has become a very good example for many other African countries to follow.”
The EU official commended President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat in the presidential election and also the President-Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, for calling on Nigerians to promote peace.
Fisas urged African leaders to always accept defeat like President Jonathan whenever they lose elections in order to promote peace and security in their countries.
He said the EU would continue to support Nigeria in promoting her democratic process and good governance.
Fisas also disclosed that EU observers would make recommendations to the Federal Government on future conduct of elections.
