With new manager-elect, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, watching on from the directors’ box, Cardiff produced a dogged defensive display against an Arsenal side, which dominated their English Premier League game on Wednesday.
Without Olivier Giroud upfront, the Gunners struggled to provide an adequate goal threat. However, after the break, the home side upped the tempo, with the Bluebirds forced to defend for pretty much the whole 45 minutes.
The introduction of Nicklas Bendtner for Lukas Podolski and Tomas Rosicky for Mathieu Flamini gave the Gunners the injection of positivity they needed.
And with just two minutes or normal time left, Bendtner smashed home from close-range after David Marshall did well to save a Bacary Sagna header.
Jack Wilshere, outstanding throughout, then deftly set up Theo Walcott who made it 2-0 at the death, courtesy of a fine chip.
