The Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, has praised the quality of the Super Eagles in conquering the resilient Flames of Malawi.
Elegbeleye, who was a Special Guest of Honour at the Eagles versus Malawi 2014 World Cup qualifying match decided at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar, Cross River State on Saturday, commended the team spirit and commitment of the team.
He said: “We had great expectations that the Eagles will make us proud and happy prior to this match.
“I am very happy that they did not disappoint us.
“I am also very confident Nigeria will be in Brazil next year with the quality of this team.
“I want Nigerians to continue to support this team and also pray for the team success.
“I am confident we will be in Brazil next year.”
The DG of NSC also showered praises on Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State for hosting the Super Eagles and the Golden Eaglets in all their World Cups qualifiers.
The former Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Sports, who spoke after the Super Eagles-Malawi match, said: “We are most grateful to Cross River State Governor, His Excellency Governor Liyel Imoke, for all he has done for the Super Eagles and the Golden Eaglets.
“He has really helped in the development and progress of Nigerian football.
“We want to say a big thank you to him.”
