Electoral Committee gives eligibility conditions for Supporters Club election

Four years after the tenure of its last management board expired, the Nigeria Football Supporters Club says it will conduct elections into its management offices on December 10.
Ademola Ariyibi, the Chairman, NFSC Electoral Committee, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Lagos that the election was long overdue and that contestants must be financially up-to-date.
Ariyibi noted that the last board had spent eight years in office instead of four.
He said that members of the club’s Board of Trustees and elders had a congress on August 20 where it was resolved that the forthcoming election would hold.
Ariyibi said: “The NFSC constitution allows for four-year tenure, but this board has spent eight good years in office because of some unresolved issues which delayed the elections.
“But last month, members of the BoT met to deliberate on ways forward and agreed that the election will hold as a first step in tackling the club’s problems.”
Ariyibi said that posts such as chairman, 1st, 2nd and 3rd vice-chairmen were open to active members that have been financially vibrant and up-to-date for 10 years.
Ariyibi added that other financial members who had spent five years and above were free to contest for the offices of General Secretary, and Assistant General Secretary.
Other positions to be contested for are Social Secretary, Welfare Officer, Chief Whip and Public Relations Officer.
He said: “All members, both contestants and voters’ financial standing must be up-to-date; in fact, it is a compulsory requirement for all to be part of the election.
“The electoral committee will not go contrary to these requirements, hence, members are free to confirm their standing before the Election Day.”
The electoral committee chairman disclosed that necessary arrangement were on ground to ensure that the election was transparent and successful.
According to him, the body has the support of the Nigeria Football Federation which will be present at the election.
