The Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has called on traditional leaders to employ themselves in their God-given service to dissipate growing tension over fears of crisis in the 2015 election.
Aliyu made his position known on Saturday at the coronation and presentation of staff of office ceremony of His Royal Highness, Alhaji Yusuf Nuhu, the 23rd Etsu of Agaie.
He said the traditional institution has always been the cradle of stability in Nigeria.
He said reasons for the escalating fears in the forthcoming elections is on account of desperation within the political class, adding that it is instructive to always put the unity of Nigeria before individual interest.
According to him: “All apprehensions for violence will not be seen once we learn to accept whatever outcome of result we get, knowing that God decides who wins.
“It is however our duty to tell our children to be law abiding and to stay away from acts that will lead to violence.
“I therefore call on traditional leaders to remind their subjects that the unity of Nigeria is sacrosanct, hence above individual interest.
Nuhu, in his acceptance speech, pledged to lead the people with the fear of Allah.
He also said he will continue to educate the people of the Emirate on the need for a violent free election.
