Team Rivers continued its brilliant outing in the ongoing 18th National Sports Festival in the Athletics event which began on Tuesday.
Team Rivers clinched gold medal in men’s and women’s 20km walk to further close gap on Team Delta.
Joy Dacus returned at a time of 1h.59mins. 35.96seconds to win the women’s 20km race. Bolanle Kaseem of Delta claimed silver medal with a time of 2hrs, 8mins, 4.40seconds; while Ogechi Obi settles for bronze returning home with 2hrs, 9mins, 43.16secs.
In the men’s class, Hussain Yunusa of Team Rivers also beat all to gold medal when he returned home at a time of 1hr, 53mins, 10.38 seconds.
He was followed by Gbenga Amos of Ogun with a time of 1hr, 57 mins, 40.32 secs, while Ibrahim Joseph won bronze with a time of 2hrs:1m: 20.62seconds.
Earlier, host Lagos won the gold medal in the 5000m women race through Aminat Olowora who returned a time of 18.47.89secs.
Deborah Pam of Delta won silver while Benue athlete, Iwanger Akaha, secured bronze medal.
