International Federation of Women Lawyers, Ekiti chapter, has congratulated the winner of Saturday governorship election in the state, Dr Kayode Fayemi of All Progressives Congress and urged him to be magnanimous in victory.
The Chairperson of FIDA, Adefunke Anoma, gave the advice on Monday in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria in Ado-Ekiti.
Anoma, who also urged the governor-elect to be gender sensitive and initiate wome-friendly programmes during his administration, said she was impressed with the preference given to pregnant women and physically challenged persons during the election to cast their votes.
The FIDA chairperson, who described the July 14 Ekiti governorship election as free, fair, credible and devoid of violence or rancour, added that the federation had organised rallies, trainings and sensitised the people before the election to ensure a hitch-free poll.
She said she was glad with the conduct of Ekiti residents before, during and after the election.
She urged other candidates in the election to accept the result, saying it was a reflection of the desire of the people.
She urged political parties, as well as Nigerians to show maturity by ensuring that peace was maintained in the state.
Anoma also advised the Independent National Electoral Commission to take necessary steps to address challenges that occurred during the Ekiti poll.
Dr Kayode Fayemi, a former Minister of Mines and Steel Development and candidate of APC won the July 14 Ekiti governorship election.
Prof. Idowu Olayinka, the Chief Returning Officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan, said Fayemi polled 197,459 votes to emerge winner.
Olayinka made the declaration at INEC headquarters in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday.
The Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, came second with 178,121 votes.
