The Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates Association has felicitated with the entire Muslim Ummah on the auspicious occasion of the 1437 Ramadan.
The association said without doubt, the month of Ramadan is unique for many reasons.
It said it is a month traditionally associated with prayers, peace, restraint, piety, reflection, charity, kindness, devotion and love.
UNIFEMGA said itt is the month in which the gates of Paradise are open and the gates of Hell are closed.
In the statement said by Alhaji Abdulwaheed Odeyimka, its National President and Alhaji Muhammad Buari, the National Publicity Secretary, UNIFEMGA added: “We appeal to the Muslims to continue doing the good deeds exhibited during the 30-day Ramadan fast as well as the unity and brotherhood heralding the commencement and ending of the 1437 Ramadan.
“As a Muslim Alumni, we see the Hijab imbroglio in Osun state as an unnecessary distraction, and we call on any aggrieved party not to take laws into their hands but respect the constituted authority and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
We condemn in its totality alleged suicide bombing attacks on the Holy City of Madinah in Saudi Arabia and other parts of the world especially in the holy month of Ramadan. It is un-Islamic and barbaric to take lives without following due process of law.
“We are equally concerned about the crisis rocking our Alma mata over the choice of a new Vice Chancellor and thus call for fairness, transparency and fear of God in the selection or appointment of a new Vice Chancellor that will be acceptable to all the stakeholders.
“In line with the dispensation of the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, we also urge Muslims and non-Muslims alike to be inspired by the spirit of self-discipline that Ramadan engenders by shunning materialism and corruption, kidnapping, act of terror.
“We urge Muslims in Nigeria, who just finished fasting in the month of Ramadan, a period of forgiveness, to forgive the unprecedented abuse unleashed on their collective humanity in the recent past and to forge ahead as one nation united by one destiny. It is an ample opportunity to foster the ideals of brotherhood and togetherness.
While praying that Allah elongate our lives to witness more Ramadan on the surface of the earth, UNIFEMGA urges all political office holders to fulfill their electoral promises and come up with policies geared towards alleviating poverty on the land.”
