A contender for the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship ticket in Ebonyi State, Senator Obinna Ogba, has vowed that no mortal can deny him the mandate given to him by the party.
Senator Ogba made this known when he addressed his supporters at his campaign office in Abakaliki on Saturday.
He allayed fears of his possible defeat by his opponent, Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, in the battle of who would eventually becomes the party’s gubernatorial flag bearer for the 2023 elections.
Ogba assured that the primary election of June 4 and 5, which produced him as the flag bearer, was duly sanctioned and recognised by the party’s National Working Committee.
Ogba, representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial District, expressed optimism that the court, as the last hope of the common man, would soon affirm him as the rightful governorship candidate of the party in the ongoing legal tussle.
Ogba declared: “I made a promise to you people that this mandate given to me, no man born of a woman will take it away.
“I may not have money, but I have the grace of God.
“Please, don’t be deceived.
“I have been in this party from day one PDP was formed in August 1988 at Sheraton Hotels, Abuja, and till today, I am still in PDP.
“I always say it that court does not belong to one person.
“Court belongs to all of us.
“And it is said to be the last hope of the common man.
“By the special grace of God, Tuesday we will be going to Court.
“Anywhere they go to court, call me, I will answer them.
“But I know at the end, God’s decision is final.”
Ogba, who further expressed pride over the overwhelming support and welcome accorded to him by his supporters right from the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, to Abakaliki on his return to the State, promised not to disappoint them.
Some party stalwarts who spoke at the event, including Ogba’s running mate, Hon. Oliver Osi, and former Nigeria’s Ambassadors to the Republic of Greece, Chief Franklin Ogbuewu, described him as the right person to lead Ebonyi State out of its present ugly state.
Osi maintained that Ogba has sown in the party and deserves to reap from it.
He further pledged his loyalty with all his supporters to the cause.
Osi added: “God has called you to deliver Ebonyi from its present darkness.”
Recall that Ogba and Odii, popularly called AnyiChuks, have been in contention over who flies the party’s governorship flag in 2023.
This followed the result of two different primary elections held on May 28 and 29 as well as June 4 and 5, which produced the duo as flag bearers
.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission in a list published few days ago had the name of Anyichuks as the recognised candidate.
The matter however, is still being contested in court.
