The Deputy Inspector General of Police deployed to supervise the 2019 general election in the North Central Zone, Godwin Nwobodo, has charged Men and Officers of the Plateau State Police Command to remain firm and be very observant during and after the elections.
The DIG disclosed this on Thursday at the Plateau State Police Command while addressing Officers and Men on their expectations during the exercise, saying reports he received about their performances in the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections were very impressive.
Nwobodo urged them to maintain the tempo and amend where necessary the lapses that might have been recorded.
He said police as the major agency entrusted with the handling of electoral matters should cooperate with other security agencies for better service delivery.
He advised them not to be confrontational, but should take note and observe every process so that at the end of the day if they are called explain what transpired in their area of assignments they will be able to do it concisely.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Isaac Akinyemode, commended the officers and men of the command during the last elections and urged them not to compromise standard.
Akinyemode reminded them that the burden ahead of them is enormous compared to other divisions due to the rerun that would be conducted alongside with the governorship and state legislative elections and stressed the need for the to step up efforts to ensure a hitch-free exercise.
