“Please, Your Excellency, our South-South Leader and our state party chairman, prompt us to action.”
With these words on Tuesday in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta state, a political pressure group, the Peoples Democratic Party Delta Mandate, vowed to defend the dictates of the party.
Led by its National President, Chief Isaac Ozo Anwuzia, the group unequivocally undertook to join forces with discerning minds to insist that the party’s constitution be upheld in the build up to the governorship race in the state in 2015.
The group, during its visit to the state PDP Chairman, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi, condemned what it described as “the baseless arguments with incontrovertible facts on the issue of rotation and zoning of elective positions”, which recently pitched the state chairman against the Secretary to the State Government, Comrade Ovouzorie Macaulay.
According to the group, the controversy trailing power shift into elective offices among leaders in the three senatorial districts of the state was settled in Section 3(c) of the party’s Constitution 2012 (as amended) “in pursuance of equity, justice and fairness”.
The group said: “As a group, the PDP Delta Mandate also lent its voice to condemn such unguarded outburst in its entirety.
“We wish to say unequivocally that the PDP Delta Mandate will stand shoulder to shoulder with our party leaders, His Excellency, the Governor, and you our chairman, in consulting with our father, South South Leader, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, in defending the dictates the party’s constitution.”
The group similarly said the consultation drive for equity, justice and fairness would be extended to eminent personalities like the President-General of the Urhobo Progressive Union, General Patrick Azizi (rtd), and two time Senator, Chief Nosike Ikpo.
Far from financial inducement, the group warned any of the aspirants jostling to succeed Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan to conduct their affairs with honour instead of plotting to entice groups with money.
Responding, the highly elated Nwaoboshi, who upheld the position of the group, described the misunderstanding between himself and the SSG as a “brotherly affair”.
He said: “Macaulay is my brother.
“We disagreed on principle but that does not mean that we are quarreling.
“If I see anybody fighting Macaulay, I will fight that person.
“We will not allow any ethnic issue to divide us.”
He promised that no ward would be conceded to the arch-rival All Progressives Congress during the race in 2015.
