Men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Delta State Police Command on Tuesday swooped on members of the Neo-Black Movement of Africa, aka Black Axe, during their anniversary celebration in Asaba, the state capital.
They had gathered at the Dester Hotel, situated along the popular Nnebisi Road in the metropolis, when the operatives stormed the arena and arrested nine female and 20 male members.
The Eagle Online gathered that they had planned to paint the metropolis red thereafter by staging an attack on their perceived enemies.
Among the things recovered from them were three expended cartridges, one National Youth Service Corps fez cap, one NYSC identity card bearing Asikodi Chiedu (paraded among the suspects), one banner with inscription, “Black Axe”, and one white Blackberry phone, full of mischievous messages.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Lucky Uyabemem, an ASP, who confirmed their being in custody at the command headquarters in Asaba on Tuesday, said “they will soon be charged to court.”
Uyabemem said the command equally raided Spotlight Club, suspected to be a criminal hideout along the Asaba-Agbor Expressway, and arrested 32 suspected hoodlums, among them 10 girls.
While Uyabemem said investigations were on to determine their culpability, he warned all fleeing cult members across the state to quickly surrender before they were smoked out of their dens.
