Crumbling state of Warri Port worries Itsekiri group

The Itsekiri Development Congress has called on the Federal Government to include the Warri Port among the sea ports billed for dredging across the country.
The group said the feat will facilitate calls by bigger vessels in and out of the oil rich state.
A statement signed by the Chairman of the group, Emmanuel Okotie-Eboh, made available to The Eagle Online, urged the Federal Government to take adequate measures to save the Warri Port from total collapse.
According to Okotie-Eboh, the port, which used to be a beehive of commercial activities in the past, has now become a shadow of itself.
He said: “Members of the group had in recent times appealed to successive governments of the need to dredge the waterways leading to the Port to revive its dwindling economic fortune.”
While he wondered why the Federal Government recently approved the dredging of ports channels in Bonny, Calabar and Lagos, to facilitate calls for bigger vessels without enlisting Warri Port, the group pleaded with Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan to help press home the demand.
