The Police Command in Cross River has passed a vote confidence in the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.
This Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP. Irene Ugbo, said this in a statement in Calabar on Thursday.
According Ugbo, the command has continued to sustain peace and security in the state under the guidance of the inspector general.
NAN reports that the vote of confidence is at the heels of the Senate leadership’s description of the IG as “unfit for public office and an enemy of democracy”.
The PPRO said the outstanding performance of the I-G so far had showcased his intellectual prowess, versatility, transparency, honesty, dynamic and result-oriented leadership.
She said: “The achievements of the IGP are uncommon. He has created new Area Commands/Divisions nationwide for effective and efficient policing.
“The IGP has strengthened the X Squads in all police commands to checkmate and curtail excesses of personnel in the formations.
“It is also in his regime that notorious and dreaded kidnappers/cultists that, hitherto, defied arrest were arrested and are presently facing trials in various courts.
“The IGP has also deployed anti-riot policemen in some parts of the state, Niger Delta, North Central and North East Zones, with a view to addressing herdsmen-farmers clashes and insurgency.
“Another milestone recorded by the IGP is the huge success in the mop-up of all illegally acquired fire-arms in all the commands.”
The command described the I-G as a rare gem, pace setter, and an accomplished officer with historical land mark that would remain indelible in the minds of all Nigerians.
