The Nigeria Cricket Federation has paid a courtesy visit to the Ogun State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Gbenga Otenuga, on the way to lift the game of cricket in the state.
The group, which eulogised the development of the game of cricket in the state, wants a continuous development of the game at the school level.
The association believes in the new sport policy of the administration of Governor Ibikunle Amosun of catching them young from school level.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Chief Operating Officer of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, George Wiltshire, said the purpose of the visit was to seek for the support of the state government in developing an Astro Turf Wicket at the Cricket Oval that was given to the association by the Ogun State Government.
The association is also seeking to convert the Cricket Oval to a Cricket Development Centre for the development of the abundant talent in the state.
Otenuga expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Cricket Federation for choosing the state and that the state is ready to partner the organisation for the development of cricket, which has been one of the major sports in the state.
Otenuga added: “And now that the government wants to develop all sports at the school level and the slogan for the state is to catch them young, the state is willing to open our door for any association that wants to work with the state to develop sports at the grassroots.”
