A Jos High Court has dismissed a suit filed by former Plateau governor Jonah Jang seeking to stop Governor Simon Lalong from releasing a White Paper on the report of a commission of inquiry against his administration.
Lalong had, in August 2016, inaugurated a commission of inquiry to dig into the activities of Jang during the eight years, from May 29, 2007 to May 29, 2015, he served as governor.
The commission, headed by Justice Stephen Adah, submitted its report in December 2016 and Lalong has promised to release a white paper on it.
Ruling on the suit on Tuesday, the Plateau Chief Judge, Justice Pius Damulak, held that it lacked merit and was being “speculative’’,
The Judge declared that Jang, currently a senator representing Plateau North, had acted “hastily” since the content of the report had not been made public and acted upon.
Adah said: “I so find that of all the 13 prayers put up by the Plaintiff, none is substantial.
“The state government, by the Act establishing the Judicial Commission of Inquiry, has the powers to set up the commission to investigate activities of present and past administrations.
“I hereby hold that the plaintiff was only speculative in his assertions. The case is hereby dismissed and struck out.’’
Justice Damulak awarded a N3.4 million cost against Jang to be paid to the defendants.
