A Benin High Court on Monday ordered the remand of one Vincent Osasumwen, 30, at a correctional facility in Benin for alleged defilement of an 11 year old girl.
The defendant was arraigned on a count of rape.
He however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
The State Prosecutor, Hamma Iyamu, earlier told the court that the suspect sometimes in October 2022, at Ohovbe Quarters in Benin Juridical Division forcefully raped the victim.
Iyamu said that the offence contravenes section 4 of the Edo State Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law, 2021, and is punishable under section 5 (1) of the same law.

Ruling on the case, Justice Efe Ikponmwonba, ordered the defendant to be remanded at the correctional facility.
Ikponmwonba also adjourned the case until June 10 for hearing.
