Court puts Anambra Senate rerun on hold

 The Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu, Enugu State, has put on hold the February 16, 2012 scheduled rerun for the Anambra South Senatorial District.

 According to the court, this is to enable it determine the suit between the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Andy Uba, and that of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, Chuma Nzeribe.

 The court also adjourned to February 16, 2012, the hearing of the application filed by Uba seeking a review of the judgement that nullified his earlier election.

 The court said that since the Independent National Electoral Commission is a party to the case, it cannot go ahead to conduct another election before the determination of the suit by Uba.

The court had earlier ruled that a fresh election should be held to fill the Senate based on Nzeribe’s plea that the election should be nullified on a number of grounds.
