The Federal Road Safety Corps on Thursday said motorists plying the Ore-Benin Expressway were complying with the order against overloading of passengers, which was aimed at checking the spread of Coronavirus.
Olusegun Aladenika, the Unit Commander of FRSC in Ore, told the News Agency of Nigeria that commercial drivers in all motor parks in the area had started carrying just one passenger on the front seat and three on the back seats as directed.
Aladenika said the report emanated from his team’s enforcement of compliance on the Ore-Benin Expressway, where it was detailed to perform its duties.
He said: “Since the order on overloading to check the spread of COVID-19, commercial motorists most especially have been complying as they now carry one passenger in front and three at the back to have more space and reduce body contacts.
“My team is on the Ore-Benin Expressway to enforce the overloading order and to ensure motorists obey all traffic rules and save lives and property in case of any emergency.”
The FRSC boss also said his team was ready to enforce the border closure order by the Ondo State Government to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
NAN reports that the Ondo State Government on Wednesday announced the closure of all its land borders with effect from 6pm on Thursday in order to contain the pandemic as the state had not recorded any positive case yet.
