Following the division in the Peoples Democratic Party, President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday night met with 16 governors elected on the platform of the PDP at the First Lady’s conference room, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting, which was described as crucial, around 9.30pm.
It was gathered that the meeting was called to discuss the development in the party that led to emergence of another faction.
In attendance were Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (Kano), Isa Yuguda (Bauchi), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Idris Wada (Kogi), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom) and Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara).
Others were Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta), Ibrahim Shema (Katsina), Mukhtar Ramallan Yero (Kaduna), Garba Umar (Taraba Acting Governor), Saiidu Dakingari (Kebbi), Theodore Orji (Abia), Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe) and Jonah Jang (Plateau).
Also in attendance were Vice President Namadi Sambo; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim; the National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki; and Joe Gadzama.
It will be recalled that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Saturday led some chieftains of the PDP and seven state governors to stage a walk out during the special convention of the party at Eagle Square.
They later addressed a press conference announcing formation of a parallel national executive of the PDP headed by a former acting national chairman of the party, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje.
At the press conference were seven governors – Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Magatarkada Wamakko (Sokoto), Muritala Nyako (Adamawa), Rabiu Kwakwanso (Kano), Sule Lamido (Jigawa) and Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara).
As at press time on Sunday night (11:45pm), the meeting between Jonathan and the 16 PDP governors was still on.
