The Management of Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi said on Monday that the unceremonious exit of the club’s Chief Coach, Abdu Maikaba, was a great blow to the team.
The Chairman of the club, Isa Matori, told sports writers in Bauchi on Monday that they would have loved to have the coach continue his good work in the club during the next football season.
Matori said: “We are not happy that Maikaba, who led the team through the Nigeria Professional Football League, has decided to leave us after we have picked a continental ticket.
“We parted without any quarrel, only that we are worried that he is leaving us now after working for the team to place third on the league table and gain a continental ticket.
“We had no problem with him; we are still going to meet somewhere during next season since he still in the country.
“We wish him well in his endeavors but had cautioned him against taking any player of the club along with him without following due process.
“Any player willing to leave the club should follow FIFA laid down guidelines and leave honorably as we cannot force any player to stay back if he wishes to leave for another club or greener posture.”
Matori said that the management of the team would engage another chief coach before it commences its continental assignment.
He said that the team would sell its best attacker, Godwin Obaje, who scored the highest goals during the NPFL, to any interested overseas club.
He said: “Obaje is still with us right now but as a game plan, any player with the highest goals should go to a higher club.
“We are going to follow the guidelines and sell him then nurture another attacker to replace him.”
The chairman commended Governor Mohammed Abubakar of the state for making fund available to the club to execute the league, in spite of the scarce resources at the disposal of the state.
He assured soccer fans and supporters in the state that the team would excel in its continental assignment.
