The Kenyan Government has concluded plans to deport no fewer than 80 Nigerians from the country.
According to the General Secretary of the Oodua Progressive Union in Kenya, O.E. Ajenifuja, those to be deported included Nigerians with valid visa.
Ajenifuja said the Nigerians scheduled for deportation are already at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Kenya.
He said the deportation was the outcome of the total war declared on Nigerians resident in the country by the Kenyan Immigration Service.
According to a statement by Ajenifuja, the crackdown on Nigerians is borne out of hatred.
He said the Nigerian Embassy in Kenya, headed by Friday Okai, has failed to act despite the “pressure, oppression, victimization, unlawful arrest and war of impunity” on Nigerians in Kenya.
Ajenifuja said it was the Kenya chapter of the OPU, led by L.B. Akintunde, that has taken up the issue with the support of the Worldwide Convener of the group, Otunba Gani Adams.
Ajenifuja added: “The matter has got to an embarrassing level that Kenya Immigration Officers put up unabated siege and crackdown on Nigerians resident in Kenya.
“They break into houses of Nigerians at unholy hours, both day and night, around Thika Road, Mololongo, South B, Fedha, Eastlands and other areas in Nairobi.
“The impunity continues and it is extending to legal Nigerian residents in Kenya.
“Unfortunately, many of the victims’ belongings are stolen during this unlawful operations.”
Ajenifuja said it is so bad that even those already scheduled for deportation at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi are “without food and in a very terrible condition”.
He therefore appealed to the Nigerian Government “to come to our rescue because no body knows the next victim and an injustice to one is an injustice to all”.
