Monsignor Gabriel Osu, the Director of Social Communications, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, has urged delegates at the ongoing National Conference to focus on ensuring true democracy in the country.
Osu told the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Lagos that it was important for delegates to discuss how government policies should be implemented for the maximum benefit of Nigerians.
He added that delegates should discuss why adhering to the principle of the rule of law would work in favour of Nigerians irrespective of their age, gender, ethnic group or region.
He said: “It should discuss basic things.
“Like I said, for over 30 years, we are still on job embargo.
“What is wrong?
“They should be talking to us in practical terms.
“This is the conference where they should march words with action.
“Nigeria for now, we are still just dancing round the circle.
“We are tired of discussion.
“Its line of action, proper constitution, its unitary government, even though they say democracy.
“No.
“They should now define what real democracy is.
“How does it apply to us and are we still running glorified military kind of arrangement or democracy at its best?
“Those are the kind of issues they should come out with and not being so apologetic to themselves even before starting.”
Osu urged the delegates to have the interest of the country at heart while taking decisions on any issue.
