The Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Force, Abdulrasheed Maina, has revealed that a civil servant was found to have kept N2 billion stolen pension fund in his home.
Maina, who spoke in Abuja on Thursday, said this was to avoid detection.
Maina, during a visit to the office of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, said: “After the verification exercise, we discovered some level of fraud.
“Based on this discovery we embarked on a search on their residences and we were shocked to discover about N2 billion in the house of one civil servant.
“On another occasion, we also discovered dollars in the house of another, running into millions.”
Maina said there are forces bent on stopping the reform of the pension process, adding: “In the course of carrying out this duty, certain forces are fighting me.
“If this is going to cost me my life or job, let it be. But history is made.
“There is no threat you can think of that we have not received.
“Certain people in the high places are trying to make things difficult for us in the course of this ongoing reform in the pension sector.”
Maina said his team has been able to recover N151 billion out of the pension funds stolen over the years.
