CAN to flag off nationwide campaign on value reorientation

The Christian Association of Nigeria will flag off a nationwide campaign for the restoration of core values and moral discipline in Nigeria on June 14, an official has said.
CAN’s Director of National Issues, Rev. William Okoye, who disclosed this at a news conference on Wednesday in Abuja, said the campaign is aimed at building peace.
He said the campaign entitled: “Be the Change You Want to See”, would be flagged off at the National Christian Centre in Abuja and extended subsequently to churches across the country.
According to the director, the association has completed the printing of three million copies of pamphlets for distribution to churches, schools and offices across the country.
He said CAN was currently designing a website to take the campaign to members of online community.
Okoye said the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, His Grace, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, and other Christian leaders would speak to Nigerians on the need for value reorientation as a panacea for peaceful coexistence.
He said: “We have observed with pain and deep displeasure the steep decline in morals and values among adherents and the citizens of our country in all faiths and cultures.
“The decline is largely responsible for the corruption, violence and decadence we witness today.
“This is why we are launching this campaign which will be carried out throughout Christian churches in Nigeria until our adherents and citizens return to the path of light.
“We are engaging interdenominational leaders to be led by Cardinal Onaiyekan to come and speak to Nigerians on this issue of value reorientation.”
Okoye said that CAN was in touch with Christians youth leaders in schools, churches and the communities to make sure the message reaches the target audience.
He said non-Christian faithful would be carried along by the kind of examples shown through the actions and lifestyle of their Christian counterparts.
“It is our conviction that if enough Christians begin to live upright and Godly lives, they will influence the general society positively,” he said.
