A Briton, Khomeini Bukhari, who was reportedly dispossessed of N200,000 and a wristwatch worth N1.3 million is demanding a compensation of N1 billion for the act and a defamatory statement by the police.
In a letter to the police by Bukhari’s lawyer, Bamidele Aturu, the Briton, a businessman, claimed that spokesman of the FCT Police Command, Moshood Jimoh, defamed him in an interview he granted the media after the incident.
Bhukari claimed Jimoh said he was not “in the right frame of mind.”
In the letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police, Aturu said his client is also demanding for a thorough investigation of Bukhari’s complaints against the two policemen who dispossessed him of his property, Samuel Ekpah and Daniel Marcus, on October 29, 2011 at the Milliennium Park, Abuja.
Aturu said in the letter dated March 19, 2012: “When allegations against serving officers of the force, as in the case of our client, are uninvestigated, it is immoral, professionally atrocious and indefensible.
“In the circumstances, we have our client’s instruction to demand, and we hereby so do, that you immediately investigate the allegations made by our client against the two named police officers (Samuel Ekpah and Daniel Marcus), and offer an unqualified apology to him in at least three daily newspapers circulating across the country.”
The police have 14 days within which to act or face a court action, according to the letter.
