The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has directed immediate investigations into a suit purportedly challenging the legality of the States’ Judicial Panel of Inquiry investigating allegations by citizens against officers of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Frank Mba, confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday.

Mba said Adamu gave the order on the heels of trending reports in the media on Thursday that a suit had been filed seeking an order to stop further sitting of the panels set up by the 36 States Governments and the National Human Rights Commission.

Adamu expressed the disapproval of the Force Management Team to the suit and ordered investigations into the alleged role of the Force Legal Section, including its Head.

The Force Legal Officer has been queried over the issue and may face further sanctions if found guilty of dereliction of duty, Mba said, adding: “The IGP reiterates the commitment of the Force to fulfilling all its obligations with regards to the disbandment of the defunct SARS, the ongoing Judicial Panels and all other police reforms.”

The I.G. of Police need to show his and the Force sincerity in the said query to the supposed overzealous Force Legal Officer. The IG. should demonstrate this by 1. promptly withdrawing the unauthorized action in the Federal High Court . 2.Dismiss the overzealous Force Legal Officer for gross misconduct (insurbordination). 3 Apologize to Nigerians for the unauthorized action.
