The Acting General Manager, Corporate Communications, of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria in charge of Yakubu Gowon Airport, Jos, Plateau State, Alfred Itua, has reiterated the management’s commitment to checking security challenges at operational areas of the airport.
Itua disclosed this in a press statement made available to journalists in Jos.
He said the Jos airport re-fencing and construction of perimeter road that began on June 2, 2014 was for safety of lives and property of the operational terminal.
According to him, the contract was awarded to an indigenous firm, Pinnatech Engineering Nigeria Limited.
Itua said the perimeter would help check bush fire and encroachment to the operational area, which was a seasonal challenge to the airport.
The 12km twin project of fencing the operational area with bimetal materials that will replace the dilapidated concrete pole and wire mesh, will prevent incursion of both human and animals into the air side.
The airport boss commended President Goodluck Jonathan for his transformation agenda in the aviation sector.
