The Bishop of the Leaders of Tomorrow International Ministries in southeastern Brooklyn neighbourhood of Canarsie, New York City, United States of America, Lamor Miller Whitehead, has been robbed while delivering a sermon, which was live-streamed.
While the police put the jewellery taken from the Bishop and his wife at $400,000, he said it was over $1 million.
Whitehead was speaking on the topic: “Adversity,” when the armed robbers struck on July 24, 2022.
He had asked: “How many of you have lost your faith because you saw somebody else die?”
Bishop Whitehead, who is said to be an ally of Mayor Eric Adams of New York, ran an unsuccessful campaign to succeed him as Brooklyn Borough president.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, Whitehead addressed the thieves and asked them to turn themselves in.
He told them that their actions had traumatised parishioners, including young children, who he said were still crying, adding that a gun was put to the face of his eight-month-old daughter.
He said: “You did this to the church, the church where I’m sure your grandmother praises God and Jesus.
“There’s no reason for you to come inside a church and violate it.”
On his taste for “flashy” accessories and his Rolls-Royce, which he drives around New York, Whitehead said: “It’s about me purchasing what I want to purchase.
“It’s my prerogative to purchase what I want to purchase if I worked hard for it.”
In a Facebook livestream on Monday, he offered a $50,000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of the armed robbers.
According to available information, the New York Police Department is already investigating the case.
