#Bayelsa decides: Policeman, four others killed as results roll in

A policeman and four others were killed on Saturday by thugs suspected to be working for the All Progressives Congress during the governorship election in Bayelsa State.
The policeman was killed in Famgbe, a remote suburb in Yenagoa, the state capital.
His offence: He refused to allow the thugs change results in the area.
He was macheted by the thugs and bled to death.
The hoodlums were led by a renowned political thug in the area.
The Peoples Democratic Party won the election in the area by a wide margin.
A visibly-angry Governor Seriake Dickson immediately condemned, in strong terms, the spate of violence unleashed on voters by thugs across the eight local governments in the South-South state.
In places like Okpoama, Eweama, Twon Brass and Oporoma, headquarters of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, thugs shot sporadically into the air, forcing voters to run helter skelter.
A livid Dickson told reporters after his accreditation at Ward 2 in Toru Orua, his home town: “We warned security agents before the election that the APC was not prepared for election but war. Now, they have seen for themselves. What happened today is really unfortunate.
“I have received disturbing reports of premeditated attacks on my party supporters in Twon Brass, and attacks sponsored by the Minister of State for Agriculture, Heineken Lokpobiri, Teco in Ekeremor town and another attacks on the PDP supporters in Oporoma resulting in the death of at least one person.
“I am not convinced with the steps that the Federal-controlled security agencies have taken in creating a conducive, safe and secure political environment for voting to take place.”
Commenting on the epileptic performance of card readers in some polling units, Dickson expressed unhappiness over the malfunctioning of the card reader as the machines were unable to capture the biometrics of his family.
He said: “In spite of trials and assurances, you all saw that my fingerprints were nor recognised, same for my wife and mother. So, we have a serious problem as far as the so-called smart card readers are concerned.
“I hope that we don’t continue to portray ourselves as an unserious and fraudulent country, manipulating anything and everything.”
In Ekeremor, Brass and parts of Nembe, there were sporadic shootings as houses belonging to PDP stalwarts were destroyed.
Many PDP supporters were stabbed and wounded by the rampaging thugs.
In Oporoma, five APC thugs were arrested in the house of a former member of the House of Representatives with AK 47 rifles.
Before their arrest, four people were killed by thugs in the town.
Later, soldiers attached to the Joint Task Force were seen trying to dislodge the thugs.
Said a source: “The shootings were heavy. In fact, JTF had to call for reinforcement.”
In Nembe, a member of the House of Assembly, Princess Ingo Iwowari, was attacked and stripped of personal belongings by the thugs.
The home of the acting Chairman of PDP, Chief Serena Dokubo, was also not spared. Dokubo was lucky to have escaped from the house before the arrival of the thugs who started shooting inside the compound.
Security agents later arrived the scene after the exit of the thugs.
Meanwhile, from the results released so far, PDP is leading.
