The Bauchi State Government has relaxed the 24-hour curfew it had imposed on Bauchi, Alkaleri and Kirfi.
Residents of the affected areas will now observe the curfew from 6pm to 8am until further notice.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Abdu Ilelah, and made available to newsmen in Bauchi on Monday.
The statement said Governor Isa Yuguda approved the review to enable the people pursue their means of livelihood and reduce the unintended hardships caused by the curfew.
It advised the public “not to politicise what is clearly a security issue and place the lives and property of the citizens in jeopardy.
“Residents are hereby advised to respect the curfew hours while pursuing their lawful activities.
“Residents are also advised to be vigilant and take all necessary steps to protect and defend themselves in the event of any attack by the insurgents.”
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that the curfew was imposed on the three towns on Sunday to safeguard lives and property, following attacks by insurgents in Alkaleri and Kirfi Local Government Areas of the state.
According to the statement, subsequent reports indicated that the insurgents also attacked Tafawa Balewa and Gital on Sunday night.
It said military had been deployed to the areas to contain the insurgents.
The statement said that the curfew would be further reviewed as soon as the security situation improved.
