Prof. Isaac Adewole, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, on Tuesday urged former President Olusegun Obasanjo to intervene in resolving the ongoing strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
Adewole made the call at the opening ceremony of the 4th Ibadan Sustainable Development Summit in Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State.
” I am appealing to you, sir, to help in bringing to an end the lingering ASUU strike to restore normalcy to the nation’s universities,” he said.
He also urged the former president to visit the main campus of the university for an inspection of the facilities inspite of the closure.
“It must be noted that attempts by both ASUU and the Ministry of Education to resolve the crisis occasioned by the strike have not been successful.”
The Minister of Education, Prof. Ruquayatu Rufa’i, had on Monday promised to resolve the disagreement with the striking lecturers.
