The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics and the Federal Government will continue discussion on February 24 with a view to resolving pending issues, ASUP’s President, Dr, Chibuzor Asomugha, has said.
Asomugha told the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Abuja that the meeting with the Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, was inconclusive and as such, would continue.
NAN recalls that the National Executive Council of ASUP recently issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Ministry of Education to check activities at Federal Polytechnics, Oko and Ado-Ekiti.
The union had asked the Federal Government to stop the intimidation, arbitrary suspension of staff and abuse of administrative procedures in the institutions.
Asomugha said: “The meeting will continue on February 24.
“The issues on the table are on the ultimatum we served the Federal Government concerning two polytechnics – Federal Polytechnics, Oko and Ado-Ekiti – and other unresolved issues.”
Shekarau has repeatedly assured ASUP of his commitment to resolving issues raised in its demands from the Federal Government.
The minister on Thursday held a closed-door meeting with representatives of the union.
