Assemblies of God Church pastor remanded in prison custody for cheating

An Upper Area Court in Gudu, Abuja on Thursday ordered that Pastor Cosmas Uwaezuak of the Assemblies of God Church, Durumi 3, accused of cheating, be remanded in prison custody pending bail application.
The presiding judge, Abdullahi Abdulkareem, gave the order after the accused person pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Abdulkareem adjourned the case to March 25 for hearing of the bail application.
He ordered that the bail application must include full and reliable information about the accused.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Edet, told the court that Happiness Egwakhu of Durumi, Abuja, lodged a report against the accused at the Apo Police Station on March 4.
Edet said that the accused deceived Egwakhu and got her to buy computers and rent an office space, which did not belong to him.
Edet said the complainant paid N502,000 for the computers and office space.
He said that after the complainant had paid the said amount, she discovered that the computers and the office space belonged to the church.
The prosecutor told the court that after the complainant found out the truth, she asked the accused to pay her back, but he refused.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provision of 322 of the Penal Code and that if convicted, the accused was liable to three years in prison with an option of a fine or both.
