As Kano comes under attack again, Boko Haram warns of impending attack on Sokoto

 Boko Haram this morning again renewed its offensive on Kano, Kano State with the attack of a Police Station in Gwale area of the town.

 Sources said that the renewed offensive started shortly after the early morning Muslim prayer.

 Though The Eagle Online could not confirm the casualty figure as at press time, it was learnt that there was a “serious shootout” between the police and members of the sect.

 The group has promised to shift its focus from Kano to Sokoto State if its members who are being detained in the state are not released immediately.

 Boko Haram’s spokesman, Abul-qada, in a telephone interview with journalists in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, said that they were giving the warning ahead of the attack so as to give room for the release of their members and avert the attack.

 Abul-qada said: “This is an open letter to the Emir (Sultan) of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar 111; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal; and the Acting Governor of Sokoto State.

 “Before we visited Kano, we wrote an open letter to senior citizens there on the imperative of releasing our members but nobody cared to talk.

 “Indeed, we sent three warnings to Kano before we struck.

“What happened in Kano will be inevitable in Sokoto unless you intervene and ensure the immediate and unconditional release of our members who were specifically arrested in the city last Thursday.”
