Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has called for the immediate arrest of controversial Islamic cleric, Shiekh Ahmad Gumi, accusing the latter of being an accessory and accomplice to terrorism and banditry.
Fani-Kayode premised his call on the testimony of an unnamed mother of a kidnapped student who claimed that Gumi facilitated a meeting with a “Fulani from Kaduna” who, with the cleric’s approval, took N800,000 from her as “transport” despite her pleading that she was a widow.
The interview was purportedly aired by RootsTV on May 4, 2021.
In a statement on Wednesday, Fani-Kayode quoted an excerpt from the interview:
“They took us to Gumi’s house. He directed us to an Ahmed, who invited a Fulani from Kaduna. We contributed N800,000 for him. He told us that was just for transport. I cried and pleaded with him, saying I’m a widow. He said it wasn’t his concern”- Kidnapped student’s mum, RootsTV, 4th May 2021.
An enraged Fani-Kayode said, “I hereby call on the Federal Government to invite, arrest and interrogate Sheik Ahmad Gumi. Assuming this lady’s testimony is true, it provides clear evidence of him being an accessory and accomplice to terrorism, abduction, kidnapping and murder.”
He accused Sheikh Gumi of being a front, bag man and PR officer for the terrorists, saying that he was certain that the cleric personally benefits from the ransoms that are being paid.
“If this were not the case, he would not spend his entire life attempting to defend, justify, rationalise and explain their barbaric, homicidal, savage and beastly ways.
“These people have so much blood on their hands, yet Gumi still holds himself out as their advocate and best friend. He is nothing but an extortionist who thrives on the misery and blood of those that have been murdered and kidnapped,” he noted.
The former minister said Sheikh Gumi must be brought to justice, together with every single one of his foreign Fulani terrorist friends and all those within and outside Nigeria’s government that have links with ISIS, Al Qaeda, Boko Haram, the Fulani terrorists, the Taliban, ISWA, Al Shabab and any other evil terrorist organisation.
He said if the federal government refuses to move against Gumi, it would cast a doubt on its commitment to the fight against terror.
“Every day people are being killed and kidnapped. This madness has to stop and those behind it and that covertly support it must be brought to justice,” he said.
