A suspected Boko Haram sponsor, identified as Comrade Nuhu Mohammed, was arrested at about 1am today by a team from the 1st Division of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna.
The arrest, said to be based on a tip-off, was effected in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State while allegedly arming some youths in the area.
Mohammed is described as “a gun-runner and patron of the Islamic terror group, Boko Haram.”
Said to be detained at an undisclosed military facility, Mohammed’s supporters, mainly youths, reportedly engaged those who went to effect the arrest in a gun battle.
Rocket launchers, IEDs materials (bombs materials), soldiers’ uniforms, army belts, cartridges, pump actions guns and some AK47 assault rifles were found in the house of Mohammed, who is said to be a former chairman of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers Association, Kaduna State branch.
It was learnt that there is pressure on the military, by some prominent Nigerians, for the release of Mohammed.
