A faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance on Monday set up a truth and reconciliation committee to unite the party.
Inaugurating the committee in Awka, the anambra State capital, the Chairman of the faction, Chief Maxi Okwu, regretted that it had witnessed a series of instability in its leadership, adding that the situation was not good for its fortunes.
Okwu said the mandate of the committee included taking a holistic look at the internal crisis of the party, proffer solutions and make recommendations that could return peace and unity to its fold.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the committee, Chief Reagan Ufomba, said he would ensure that it delivered on its mandate within three weeks.
Ufomba said there had been a lot of misconceptions and misinformation as regards the leadership of the party, adding that the committee would anchor its reconciliation and unity on truth.
He said: “This committee will not let you down.
“We shall deliver on our terms of reference.
“I have had interactions with stakeholders in the party and they are concerned with the happenings in this great party.
“This committee therefore is timely.
“We shall carry out our assignment without fear or favour.
“There will be no victor or vanquished.
“We are all brothers and sisters.
“We shall come out stronger.”
A gubernatorial aspirant, John Nwosu, said the move was a step in the right direction, adding that in every human society there was the possibility of misunderstanding.
Nwosu said that power belonged to the people and that they should be allowed to elect who they wished would be their leader.
