Rattled by the landslide victory and disgraceful defeat of their candidate, Governor Kayode Fayemi, in the governorship election in Ekiti State, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress has concluded plans to embarrass the Governor-elect, Ayodele Fayose, through the instrumentality of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission.
The Peoples Democratic Party, Ekiti State chapter made this assertion in a press release signed by its Publicity Secretary, Pastor Kola Oluwawole, which was made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Friday.
The statement disclosed that the leadership of the APC converged on the Ikoyi, Lagos State home of the former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who doubles as the national leader of the party, where the Ekiti State election was reviewed in view of what next could be done to upturn the victory of Fayose through judicial manipulations.
The meeting was allegedly attended by the newly-elected National Chairman of the party, Chief Odigwe Oyegun; former Interim National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande; the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; a former Governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Niyi Adebayo; the Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN); some retired judges; lawyers on the payroll of Tinubu; and other notable leaders of the party across the country.
The meeting was said to tried all in vain to find fault in the election, hence the resort to another means of tackling the situation to wade off the shame, which they have incurred by the ignominious defeat suffered in the hands of the PDP.
Oluwawole stated further that those who attended the meeting were said to have made frantic efforts to consider the issue of ‘photochromic rigging’ as postulated by one of the national officers of the APC but for lack of credibility and legal viability, the idea was dropped.
He said that it was at this stage that a source at the meeting said one of the leaders suggested that Fayose could be embarrassed by compromising the EFCC to file fresh charges against Fayose, knowing that the governor-elect’s counsels had rubbished the EFCC charges in the court.
At the meeting, it was also elected to heighten propaganda against the governor-elect in two national dailies aside the APC’s official paper, as the papers and their columnists have been paid huge sums of money for the assignments.
Oluwawole stressed that part of the assignments given to these columnists was to always twist anything the governor-elect had said.
According to the source, Oluwawole said the meeting unanimously agreed that Tinubu should go ahead and use all his connections to compromise the EFCC and that the EFCC should present the fresh charges in September.
According to Oluwawole, part of the APC’s agreement with the EFCC was to always issue press statements to embarrassed Fayose, saying that one of such was the one that came out in The Punch last week by the EFCC that Fayose has a case to answer.
Oluwawole added that N500 million has been earmarked for the execution of the plots, while another $5 million was set aside to buy the EFCC officers after the judge that would handle the matter would have been settled with N200 million from the initial sum raised.
The statement also revealed that the time to execute the agenda has been fixed for sometime in September so as to disturb the swearing-in of Fayose in October.
As a follow-up to grand plot, Fayemi has allegedly been instructed not to have anything doing with Fayose, but rather he should be striving to frustrate the incoming government in any way he so wishes, with the expectation that Fayose’s reactions to such moves would be enough to set him against the people of the state.
The PDP however described this agenda as dastardly and nefarious in its entirety, adding that it is only a set of notorious political criminals and men of retrogressive tendencies that could be thinking like this.
The party particularly expressed its worries over the involvement of Tinubu, whom the party said is known in the political chemistry of Nigeria as a dangerous virus and man of irreconcilable background who doesn’t care if Nigeria collapses or goes into extinction.
According to the party, those who attended the meeting were people of diabolical mindsets who would not look at the foolishness of what they are doing or its implications.
Rather, the PDP said what is paramount to them is what would come into their pockets or go into their bank account at the end of every evil machination they so perpetrate.
It said: “These APC leaders should however be reminded that they have destroyed many carriers and disorganised many straight ways in Nigeria before; now the game is up for them and their stinking desires.
“We equally want to remind officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission how the APC leaders destroyed the carrier of the retired President of the Court of Appeal, Ayo Salami, who left judiciary with bruises all over due to unholy alliance with them.
“These people are vampires. They are in Nigerian politics for blood not for her well-being, hence we warn the EFCC as an institution to run away from the cabal whose major assignment is to cause mayhem and destruction in Nigeria.”
