The Chairman, All Progressive Change Merger Committee, Chief Tom Ikimi, has said that the political association has ensured transparency at every stage of its registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Ikimi made the statement when he addressed newsmen after the merger committee’s meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said: “We will therefore strive to guarantee transparency and internal party democracy, particularly at the stage of registration.
“We expect all of us involved in the process to also subscribe to, and respect these fundamental principles.”
The chairman said that the final document for the registration of the association as a political party was submitted on Friday.
“The final document for registration in accordance with INEC regulations has to be signed by the National Chairman, National Secretary and National Treasurer of each of the merging parties,” he said.
According to him, everyone who is committed to this new platform of change in Nigeria must be prepared to make the necessary sacrifice.
Ikimi said that the merger committee had worked assiduously for more than four months.
The committee had achieved remarkable progress toward the merger of the Action Congress of Nigeria, the All Nigeria Peoples Party, the Congress for Progressive Change, and sections of the All Progressives Grand Alliance and Democratic Peoples Party to form the APC.
Ikimi said: “We were able to conclude work amicably on the choice of name, logo, slogan, symbol, constitution and manifesto.
“The merging political parties held hitch free conventions in Lagos, Abuja and Gusau.”
He said that the political association could not form its interim management due to some unresolved issues, adding that the members wanted to further consult their respective parties.
Similarly, the National Publicity Secretary of the ACN, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said that the inability of the APC to form its interim management could not hinder its full registration by INEC.
