Suspended President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Isa Ayo Salami, will have to wait a while longer before he can be reinstated to his position, so says the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke,SAN.
Adoke said that Salami has to wait until all the cases surrounding his suspension are resolved.
Adoke said this on Tuesday during a news briefing ahead of the celebration of the one year of the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan in power.
He said there was the need to follow the due process in the reinstatement of Salami as the government did in August 2011 when the National Judicial Council recommended his suspension and retirement.
He said the government, mindful of the fact that Salami had instituted a law suit over the matter, only suspended him and waited for the outcome of the suit.
Adoke said: “Rather than do anything, what the president did was to exercise his power under Section 238(4) of the constitution, to appoint an acting president of the Court of Appeal.
“On the 11th May, the NJC was said to have recalled Justice Salami but the presidency only received the letter last Friday.
“And the other day, the Federal Government received various litigations by the way of originating process, challenging the competence of NJC to reinstate Salami.
“This government is anchored on the rule of law and we will do the right thing as soon as all matters are resolved in the court.”
