Claims have emerged that the Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has not paid salaries of over six months to some government officials in the state.
The categories of officials claimed not to have been paid include the commissioners recently sacked by Fayose.
Also listed as having not been paid for six months by some of the commissioners are the Deputy Governor and Secretary to the State Government.
It is also being claimed that while some categories of public office holders are not being paid, the salaries and allowances of Fayose had been paid.
Fayose, it was claimed has also paid himself other remunerations and security votes up to date.
So also was Fayose, the Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum, who has been criticizing the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari on several fronts, accused of failure to comply with the principles of separation of power.
He was accused of having reappointed some of the sacked commissioners without recourse to state House of Assembly.
But Fayose’ Special Adviser on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, disputed the accusations.
Olayinka said no one gets preferential treatment in the payment of salaries and allowances, including civil servants.
He said based on the realities on ground, all political appointees as well as civil servants have been paid up till February, adding: “It is not possible for one person to be paid and others will not.
“It is online payment.”
