Airtel has been commended for its key role in touching the lives of thousands of internally displaced persons in Nigeria.
This commendation was given at the press briefing of “Climb with Remi”, an initiative that aims to raise funds for IDPs in Nigeria.
Speaking about the initiative, the Ogun State First Lady, Olufunsho Amosun, explained the sufferings and pains thousands of IDPs go through.
According to Amosun, a lot of people are unaware of the hardship faced by their fellow brothers and sisters who as a result of one crisis or another have become homeless.
She said: “They lack proper shelter, feeding and other basic necessities. I wish to thank Airtel Nigeria for supporting the Climb with Remi initiative as they put a smile on the faces of IDPs in Nigeria.”
Also speaking at the event, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa highlighted the need for Nigerians to be empathetic and embark on laudable projects to uplift the underprivileged.
Dabiri-Erewa said: “As citizens of this great country, we must inculcate a spirit of oneness and be our brothers and sisters keepers. We must emulate organisations like Airtel Nigeria who are lending a helping hand in taking care of IDPs.”
Under the Climb with Remi initiative, a group of six passionate Nigerian women will climb Mountain Kilimanjaro as part of the activities to attract global attention and raise funds in support of government’s efforts at improving the living conditions of displaced women and children in IDP camps across Nigeria.
Backed by Airtel Nigeria, the project is championed by Remi Abere along with other women, Amosun; Dabiri-Erewa; Joke Olanipekun; Uzo Nwani; and Debo Laditan, who will climb the mountain.
Prior to this, Airtel Nigeria has been extending succour to displaced people through donation of items to various IDP camps in Nigeria.
