Nigeria’s Newcastle United FC of England striker, Shola Ameobi, has pledged his international future to the Super Eagles.
Ameobi added that the clause that halted his Africa Cup of Nations debut had been rectified.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Super Eagles’ Media Officer, Ben Alaiya, on Thursday.
It said that an official of the Eagles, Enebi Achor, broke the news to Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, at the team’s current base in Kaduna.
The national team is preparing for a crucial African Nations Championship qualifier against the Elephants of Cote d’ Ivoire.
There had been reports that Ameobi might not play for the Eagles following the insertion of a controversial clause in his contract at Newcastle.
“He said the clause has been removed and he will be ready to play for the Super Eagles anytime he is called upon,” it said.
The statement also quoted Ameobi saying: “I will love to play for Nigeria under Stephen Keshi because he is a good coach.
“Above all, I am very proud to be a Nigerian and will always grab the opportunity to don the green white colours of my fatherland.”
The statement said an elated Keshi, while reacting, said that he would talk to the player to re-assess his comeback bid to the national team and invite him anytime he was needed.
“He is no doubt a good player and the national team can utilise his experience anytime we call upon him,” the statement quoted Keshi as saying.
