Nigerian international, Shola Ameobi has revealed Newcastle United’s “togetherness” has put them into the shootout for European places in the Premier League.
The Magpies can boast a 100% record in November after four successive victories under Alan Pardew and with the hectic and often decisive festive period coming up United are very much in with a shout of at least challenging for a Europa League spot.
Ameobi was man of the match in the opinion of some pundits at the weekend, but dedicated the win to the team spirit in Pardew’s squad at the moment.
The long serving striker said: “There is a togetherness in the squad.
“If you are to win games everybody has to be pulling in the right direction.
“We have a system here which we have all bought into and it’s working.
“We are just delighted to be able to give our fans that victory.
“Maybe last season when they equalised we might not have been able to go on and win that game.
“That just shows how motivated we have been, we are just loving every minute.
“It has been a fantastic November for us.
“A lot is made about our consistency and we have just proved we are a side who can bring it week in, week out.
“That was a tough game for us.
“Yet we have ground it out and are delighted.”
Ameobi’s partnership with Loic Remy was heralded after the 2-1 win against the Baggies, despite United’s goals coming from Yoan Gouffran and Moussa Sissoko.
