Alleged Misconduct: APC restrains States’ Chapters from imposing sanctions on members   

The ruling All Progressives (APC) has restricted its States’ Chapters from slamming disciplinary actions on any erring member of the party.

APC National Working Committee (NWC) took this decision due to worry about a rash of disciplinary actions emanating from its various chapters, including suspension and expulsion of party members for alleged infractions during the just-concluded polls.

The restriction was contained in a statement issued Thursday in Abuja by the party’s National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka.

The order came on the heels of a directive by the NWC for a stay of action on the expulsion of Senator Mohammad Danjuma Goje by the Gombe State Executive Committee of the party. 

Morka, in the press statement, said the party took the discipline of members seriously insisting that necessary mechanisms must be adhered to.

The statement reads in part: “The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) notes with deep concern the spate of disciplinary actions emanating from various state chapters, including suspension and expulsion, of party members for alleged infractions in the wake of the just concluded national elections.

“The party takes the matter of discipline of its members seriously as a necessary mechanism for the maintenance of a strong, vibrant and cohesive party at all levels. “However, this is a highly inauspicious time for these actions, as meritorious as they may be, given the important upcoming leadership transition and inauguration of our new government. 

“The party hereby directs that action stay on all disciplinary matters pending further directives of the NWC on the effective review and treatment of disciplinary matters. 

“In the same vein, the party has affirmed the membership status of the former governor of Gombe State, Senator Mohammed Danjuma Goje, who was allegedly expelled by the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party.”

APC maintained that despite the announced punishment against him, Goje, a former State’s Governor remains a bonafide member of the party in Gombe, North East Nigeria.

“The party has directed that the said expulsion and all related actions in the matter be, and are hereby, set aside pending further review and decision of the party’s NWC on the matter.

Therefore, Senator Goje is, and remains, a bonafide member of the Gombe state chapter of our party” Morka restated.
