Akwa United has emerged champions of this year’s edition of the Aiteo Cup after defeating their Niger Tornadoes counterparts 3-2 via penalty shootout.
The tie went into penalties after the regulation time ended barren.
The Champions, Akwa United will pocket the sum of N25 million, while Niger Tornadoes get N10 million for their effort.
Akwa United will represent Nigeria in the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup competition.
It can be recalled that Akwa United won in 2015 after edging Lobi Stars 2-1 in the final.
Meanwhile, Awka United’s trio Ojo Olorunleke, Coach Adbul Makaiba and Christian Pyagbara were adjudged the best goalkeeper, coach and highest goal scorer of the tournament respectively.
